Challenge

Industrial organisations need to understand and reduce energy use across diverse processes, assets and operating environments. Conventional energy auditing can be difficult to scale across sectors and may not provide consistent, data-driven identification of inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.

Solution

The project will create a common AI-based auditing framework that can be applied across multiple industrial sectors. The approach will use energy and operational data to support structured analysis of energy performance, identify potential inefficiencies and generate actionable insights for audit processes. The innovation lies in combining artificial intelligence with a reusable cross-sector auditing methodology rather than relying only on manual, site-specific assessments.

Main activities

The consortium will define the requirements for a multi-sector industrial energy auditing framework and identify the data, process and reporting needs common across industrial environments. It will develop and validate AI-based methods for analysing energy performance, detecting inefficiencies and supporting audit recommendations. The work will also include integration into a usable framework and assessment of its applicability across different industrial sectors.

Partners sought
  • Industrial coordinator — Industrial automation SME, energy management software company, OT/SCADA platform provider, industrial digitalisation company
  • AI analytics partner — Develops the baseline modelling, anomaly detection, attribution logic and recommendation engine. Provides the AI/ML capability needed to turn multi-utility and production data into continuous audit insights, M&V outputs and actionable operational guidance.
  • Measurement integrator — Provides metering, utility data acquisition and secure integration with electricity, gas, steam, water and production systems. Ensures that data adapters, sensors, edge gateways and industrial communication protocols work reliably in real plants.
  • Industrial pilots — Validate the framework in operational environments and provide real production, utility and process data. The pilots should cover the promised sectors, ideally food processing, pharma and petrochemicals, and should co-define KPIs such as energy savings, anomaly detection accuracy, audit effort reduction and ISO 50001/CSRD evidence generation.
  • Energy auditor — Validates that the methodology is credible for energy audits, ISO 50001 evidence trails, IPMVP-style M&V and CSRD/ESG reporting. This role can be a full partner if methodology credibility is central, or a subcontracted expert if the technology partners already have strong audit and reporting expertise.
